APPLICATIONS ARE ALWAYS MOSTLY OPEN.

IMPORTANT: We are currently still an invite only game, but starting the 15th will be accepting non-invite applications as well!

They will be processed pretty much whenever I get to them. Currently, we have few enough incoming characters that there is no official introduction log, and folks are welcome to make their own intro log/network post at their leisure. Same goes for OOC intro posts.

THERE IS NO RESERVES PAGE.

If you'd like to functionally 'reserve' your character, you're welcome to put up a placeholder comment here on the app page and edit the application and/or app link in later.

If you do this, be sure to include "CHARACTER NAME | CHARACTER CANON | PLACEHOLDER" in the subject line + your name/contact info (plurk, discord, whatever) in the body of the placeholder.

This will be valid for one week, at which point I'll delete it and free up the character.

APPLICATIONS ARE (MOSTLY) HILARIOUSLY SIMPLE.

Most everything can be linked or summarized very briefly, with a few key exceptions:


• CRAU characters need a summary of the changes brought on by their CRAU, since the canon wiki doesn't cover that
• characters with no good wiki do need a little bit of a summary just so i know what the hell
• original characters need some sort of infopage to link me and/or a general summary
• malleable protags (e.g. commander shepard) need a general list of the choices made in canon, since the wiki doesn't cover that either
Functionally, anything that I can't figure out from a linked wiki, you need to give me a little something for.

THERE'S AN EXTRA CREDIT SECTION.

This, in effect, helps me keep in mind what flavors of horror will work best on the character cluster that we have in our game. If you don't want to fuck with it, just delete the entire 'extra credit' section. Otherwise, give me the juicy deets for any or all of the questions that strike your fancy.

Not that his brother thinks he's good for nothing, but compared to him he is most definitely weaker and an embarrassment to the family. Instead of focusing on working on his cultivation and training with his saber.

• the biggest change is that he has kind of learned how to people. he's still antisocial, but his support system in asgard was strong enough + the setting itself was non-apocalyptic enough that he could start to... very slowly rewire his built-in 'my only value is in keeping others alive' mindset. this has allowed him to learn how to be more tolerant of others, and then (with increasing familiarity with a person) to meet them partway instead of making them come to him entirely.
  
  
• the above change did have a sort of setback, though - emil did die back in ~october and that really fucked both of them up for a bit. lalli has mostly recovered from that by now, and it seems to impact him very little in daily life, but he does still have a much more 'my only purpose is to keep others alive which i will never be able to do' mindset than he did at the start of his time in asgard. a crack remains in that foundation, only smoothed over by the fact that his generally increasing ability to people has broadened his concept of purpose a bit beyond simply his utility as a guardian.
  
  
• he went through a bit of a crisis of faith. his magic in canon comes from his gods, which he has a distantly familiar working relationship with (there is no proof that they exist, but many other spiritual concepts do + magic in ssss reacts as though controlled by someone/something beyond the mages), but in asgard he was closed off from them entirely and had to learn how to functionally guide himself. he has always thought he was independent, but losing the safety net of his finnish gods taught him that he was less so than he realized. i'm going to play with this in vestige for sure.
  
  
• some neat cr developments! he and emil worked their way to one another in an unconventionally romantic way. they're definitely not... a typical couple, but they are each other's Person now - and though lalli is still unconvinced that he is actually legitimately able to meet emil's needs, it's pretty great so far. the two of them somehow managed to become a familial dynamic trio with klaus hargreeves (umbrella academy), and they're pretty ride-or-die for each other. klaus specifically has been interesting cr because he has no trouble pushing lalli (emil still balks at it a little, or at least did until recently), so he has actually done wonders in helping lalli learn how to function more like a normal human being on an emotional level. namine is another great bit of cr, since she is functionally not someone he has any practical reason to ally with but her unexpectedly shrewd brand of kindness has worked her way under his skin and managed to earn her the spot of 'the person lalli hesitates least to talk to about emotion-related topics', even over emil and klaus. the final cr i'm gonna mention is ivar - the two of them threatened each other semi-actively for multiple months, then after a confrontation they accidentally bonded over the inevitability of everyone around them dying, so now there's an odd grudging respect there.
  
  
• he developed the native god magic in asgard via his god honir, achieving two of his three tiers of magic (listed here).

CRAU INFO:

A foundational mechanic of Asgard was characters receiving three spells as a gift from the game's gods. Emil had unlocked two before dropping, and his initial discovery that he was capable of magic at all was...jarring, to say the least. While his canonpoint meant that he'd seen quite a bit of magic and held respect for at least one person who could wield it, magic was still a point of ignorance in his life. He's certainly not the best when it comes to using his spells, but he's willing to learn how to hone and grow the skills he has now.

In canon, Emil has effectively made one friend in his entire life, which allowed him to grow his empathy and understanding of others an immense amount. However, that was limited without variety, something that Asgard gave him. It's impossible to unlearn 19 years of selfishness and spoiled behavior in such a short amount of time, but he's certainly on the road to being a more well-rounded person. He's attained a very close friend in Klaus Hargreeves, someone who he certainly feels a fondness for, but there are also complexities to their relationship that Emil hasn't experienced with other relationships before, mostly having to do with Klaus' free-spirit and substance addiction issues.

With the smaller changes out of the way, the two biggest life-altering incidents in Asgard for Emil are his death and his relationship with Lalli Hotakainen:

1) During a game event in with White Walkers and the Night King from Game of Thrones made themselves present in Asgard, Emil was killed and turned into a White Walker himself. Basically undead and blood-thirsty, Lalli had no choice but to kill Emil in his turned state. Despite being without control of his body as a White Walker, Emil has complete memory of both of his deaths. This was a major point of contention between the two for a while, and still has a residual effect on their relation, as well as on Emil's psyche in general. He also has semi-consistent migraines and physical head pain from the incident.

2) Lalli was Emil's first and only friend at the beginning of Asgard, and even though his list of acquaintances grew Lalli still continued to be the person he appreciated the most. A lack of language barrier meant their relationship could grow positively, as well as create more opportunities for conflict. Despite a couple fights and disagreements, it only solidified to Emil that Lalli was someone he could never hold anything against, let alone not see as a friend in his life. He eventually accepts that the feelings he holds for Lalli are romantic in nature, finally confessing them and to his total surprise, they were reciprocated. Their romantic relationship is somewhat atypical, and it's only about ~3 months old, but it'll certainly be one of things that Emil is most sure about in his newfound situation.

⬛ EXTRA CREDIT.

FEARS?: Being trapped (again), being forced to harm others (again, especially people she cares about), her own self-perceived weakness of character. Not big on creeping vines, aggressive plants or mysterious figures in dark coats, and is probably more comfortable around people her age than proper adults.

REGRETS?: So Many Regrets. The whole manipulating Sora thing was bad enough, but considering that the fallout from that went on a whole year and involved both Roxas and Xion having to be returned to Sora in order to wake him up, it really snowballed into a regret avalanche.

PERSONAL INSECURITIES?: Naminé's spent her whole existence being told and or shown by basically everyone that she's not important as anything other than a tool, so there are definitely some self-esteem issues going on there. She's very surprised when someone treats her kindly, but because she really needs that, she's also afraid that they'll change their minds about her over time/if they find out more about her, or if she's no longer useful to them. (Thank you, DiZ.) She's also quite concerned that someone else might try to use her for her powers, since that's... happened pretty much constantly, in her experience. Mostly she's just hoping it won't be for anything bad next time.

MOTIVATORS?: She has a pretty strong dedication to looking after various people in her canon, Sora especially. Really, though, she's a very kind-hearted person and tends to take on other people's problems if she feels like there's some way she can help, regardless of whether or not said other person is a stranger. On some level she's got amends to make for past mistakes, but mostly she's just developed a pretty strong (if occasionally a bit grey) moral fiber after everything that happened in the early part of her life. She's seen some crud and honestly the more people she can keep out of trouble the better.

• klaus's main development came after he experienced some bizarre and-slash-or traumatic events after his arrival in asgard. some dragon hole shenanigans, a white walker war (and some others i'd have to go back and find, just work with me—) plus a few other things (such as scouting and plant-testing) led to an extremely solid friendship between himself, lalli hotakainen and emil västerström. together, they ended up building a house with a couple friends (tuuri, reynir) where they all lived together for a while. by the end, klaus had a menagerie house before he, too, left asgard and ended up in the hellhole that is vestige.

• reliving things during cave hallucinations eventually allowed him to somewhat forgive himself (and sharing said things with emil and lalli at one point was a big factor) for things that'd happened back in his homeworld and accept making new friends wouldn't be the worst thing. witnessing emil's death – while being unable to stop it – was another turning factor when it came to his decision that protecting those he cares about is far better than running the other way.

• other mentionable people he became close to are rhys strongfork (borderlands) and ivar the boneless (vikings). the former he maybe kinda-sorta developed a friends with benefits thing with at first, but when it came to emil's death, rhys was there to help comfort and reassure him despite everything. that alone solidified their friendship, given how much trust he had to put into letting that be a Thing. ivar, however, is a stranger case in the sense they've got a tentative, tumultuous friendship (???) that's developed from a mutual understanding of one another (and mushrooms and right-proper viking makeovers in klaus's case). oh, and klaus also helped ivar discover his magic after a pep talk, which might've had something to do with it? just maybe, that is.

• and i suppose alongside regaining his mediumship, evocation and astral projecting, he's got his asgard magic: healing spirit (which is in the form of moths) and telekinesis.

CRAU INFO: Asgard CRAU! He gained enchantment magic and this blood transference spell. I assume he can keep these even though he technically went home in between.

As for the changes, Asgard mostly helped him develop in the same way he did in his original canon. He grew to become Less Of A Douche. In canon he seems to have decided that he doesn't need to be a complete asshole to be a CEO and seems to be genuinely appreciated and liked by his employees. So, basically, he's stopped trying to act like Handsome Jack and lets people know when he actually appreciates them. With Asgard's development with him as well, he'll actually be kind of nice to be around, and an actually good and reliable person to lean on if you need to.

Even if he can't really like. Fight monsters or anything. Can't help you there.

However, something Asgard did that the Borderlands couldn't really, was teach him to dare to trust people more. As much as he probably does trust his employees even in canon, he wouldn't be shocked if any of them decided to stab him in the back, even if he'd stubbornly protest the very notion. In Asgard he learnt that, wow, people can actually be decent - or even good - and trustworthy. This means he doesn't keep people at an arm's length as much as he used to. He'll scratch your back and trust that you might just scratch his in turn.

• Reynir gained the ability to summon his fylgja into the physical world for stretches of time, as well as the ability to see through the fylgja's eyes if he focused.
• Reynir developed an incredibly close friendship with Klaus, to the point where Klaus is hands down the first person he comes to when he's looking for comfort or a hug.
• He made friends with Namine as well, but not to the extent to where he would usually seek her out.
• Lalli and Emil have stopped being explicitly horrible to Reynir and actually try to make an effort to include him in things now. They're still not the best of friends by any stretch of the imagination, and Emil still definitely winds up annoyed with Reynir more than anything, but he at least feels like he can talk with Lalli about things sometimes and it's progress.

INFO: The White Vault is a tale of woe involving a group of scientists sent on what was sUPPOSED to be a short, simple jaunt to repair machinery and collect data from a remote Antarctic outpost. Graham was their survival guide, aka don't let all the squishy sciency tech people accidentally freeze to death or get eaten by a polar bear or something.

Unnnnfortunately, said jaunt was neither short, nor simple, and, as one piece of official merch says, the characters "just wished there were polar bears." INSTEAD there were creepy radio transmissions! and a bizarre abandoned village below the glacier! and an anatomical theater where they found a whole bunch of boxes filled with human hearts and teeth! and a monster! who slowly picked them off one by one! graham is the only survivor, and that was more luck than skill. he is currently drowning in ptsd and survivor's guilt, so that's fun!

personality wise he's taciturn and to the point, occasionally blackly, stabbily funny, and yet despite that driven almost entirely by caring for and keeping his charges safe. congratulations, you're all his charges now.

INFO: here's an old app with history and personality already written

CRAU INFO: Ash spent over a year in the alternate-America of Mask or Menace, where he was given some superpowers (see the above app), and where he was able to grow as a "person" and develop an identity outside of the man he's a clone of. He took on the name "Green Newman" instead of Ash Starmer, and was able to make his first real adult friends (a few people from the Pokemon universe, among others), as well as meet other inorganic life forms (including a Transformer and the living embodiment of the X-Men Danger Room). He made friends with General Hux from Star Wars because they shared a face, but later realized that Hux was taking advantage of him and was never actually his friend. When he confronted Hux about this, Hux used his technopathic powers to deactivate Ash/Green and left him in a ditch. His body wasn't discovered until days later.
