BUY SHIT
BUY SHIT
► OVERVIEW
- On this page, you can submit links to tag-ins that you've done and trade them for fun rewards! While Vestige has no activity requirements, your mod wanted to offer a little bit of incentive to tag around a bit more than we've seen so far.
This system is simple and pretty open to customization by you, the players! Rewards will come in two categories: personal horrors or personal boons. All rewards are bought here on an OOC level only - while characters are able to barter ICly with the Technicians, that requires quite a bit more effort... and probably suffering.
► REWARDS
THE OPTIONS.
- When redeeming top-levels for rewards, you're able to choose whether you want that to be a horror or a boon. These come in a number of sizes, and can end up being generally pleasing/horrifying or specifically tailored to your character, depending on how you fill out the copypasta.
While sometimes they may have been influenced by something a character said (e.g. an offhanded comment like 'at least it wasn't bees' could possibly lead to.... some sort of bees), they aren't actually any form of reward/punishment for your character by the Technicians. Consider it more of a sprinkling of good or bad, which your character just so happened to be standing in the path of.
THE COST.
- Rewards come in three size tiers: Small, medium, and large.
- SMALL REWARD - five (5) tag-ins
This is a small-scale thing. For boons, it's something which makes a person very happy for a day or slightly increases their quality of life for a few weeks - a supply of a comfort food, a personal token from home. Regular non-magical weapons can be bought at this tier too, like fuck it, you can have a gun. For horrors, it's probably going to be more uncomfortable/unnerving than horrifying. Nothing that leaves any lasting damage will probably come from the small reward tier.
- MEDIUM REWARD - ten (10) tag-ins
If you're looking for something fun but not necessarily long-term impacting. Medium tier-horrors are actually horrors - they give your character something substantial to deal with (alone or with CR) for anywhere from a few days to a month. Medium horrors can be things which happen to your character, or things which your character has to solve/fix. Medium boons, meanwhile, are things which significantly improve your character's immediate quality of life, whether physically (maybe their run-down cabin is fixed up and given air conditioning!) or psychologically (maybe they receive a memory-flash of their own happy future). If your character has had a rough few months, a medium boon is the way to go.
- LARGE REWARD - twenty (20) tag-ins
A large horror is likely one that develops across multiple months (the gradual onset of a personal haunting or shift into some form of horror monster), or which possibly impacts the game as a whole (depending on what sort of horror you're looking for). A large boon is functionally life-changing, like a fancy new magical/mutated ability or a brand new location added to the map at your behest.
SEMANTICS (drop-down)
Q: WHAT COUNTS AS A POINT?
- Literally any tag-in that you do counts as a point. If someone posts a network post, a log, or a top-level on a catch-all and you tag into it, that's one point for you. Top-levels themselves do not count toward this! At current, we have a bit of an issue where everyone top-levels and fewer people tag around, and this is to help remedy that.
Q: DO THE NUMBER OF TAGS IN THE THREAD MATTER?
- Not even a little. A tag-in with a 1-2 comment thread is one point and so is a tag-in with a 10-comment thread.
Q: DO TAG-INS 'EXPIRE'? DOES THE DATE OF THE TAG-IN MATTER?
- A tag-in from literally anytime since Vestige opened (at the start of July) can be counted as a point. This does mean that the very first interest-check TDM does not count, but anything after the second TDM does!
The only thing that matters is that tag-ins used for one reward can't be used again for another reward, which is possibly obvious but is definitely worth mentioning for posterity.
Q: ARE THERE ANY BONUS POINTS?
- Fuck yep there are - if you tag into a TDM top-level, each of those is worth two (2) points instead! At current, that's the only method of earning bonus points, since I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible. (Note that, as mentioned above, only the second TDM and beyond count for points!)
Q: ARE THE POINTS PLAYER-SPECIFIC OR CHARACTER-SPECIFIC?
- Points are by player, so tag-ins by all of your characters can count toward a reward for one specific character.
Q: CAN I GIFT MY TAG-INS POINTS TO SOMEONE ELSE? CAN TWO OF US SPLIT A REWARD?
- You're free to gift your CR if you want, but please try to let them earn their own if at all possible though, just for the sake of more folks tagging around.
You are also able to split a reward, depending on the nature of it. As a general rule, one single reward will be received no matter how many people pay into it, and can be split however the players choose, so doing so tends to lessen the value of each reward.
For a boon example, let's say Batman and Robin want to buy a cave with a hidden entrance - they're able to each contribute 10 points to the 20 point buy-in and would receive one single hidden-entrance cave. On the flip side, if the reward is 'budding telekinesis, which strengthens with practice', each individual would have to pay the full 20 points to get it. Similarly, two people could divvy up 5 points between them and get a decent supply of one single comfort food - but if they wanted a second comfort food, that would be an additional reward and cost another five points.
For a horror example, if a ten-point horror is a monster, two people can each contribute five point and receive one monster, which they face together. However, if the ten-point horror is "at some point, this character vividly experiences a reel of the worst memories of everyone within ten feet at that specific point in time", the one received horror would be limited to that person, and each additional person would have to pay their own way in.
Q: CAN I CHOOSE MY HORROR/BOON?
- Definitely! In the copypasta below, there's a field which asks you if you have any thoughts, ideas, preferences, etc. Utilize this field to express things like 'it would be cool to have X specific boon/horror' or 'I'd love a horror based on my character's fear of drowning' or anything along those lines. The bigger the cost, the more I'd love your input on what sort of thing you're looking for. (See the copypasta itself for more on this.)
You're also free to request a different horror/boon if you don't like the one I offer!
Q: DO I HAVE TO GIVE MY CHARACTER THE HORROR/BOON RIGHT AWAY?
- Nope, feel free to save it for the opportune moment if you'd like.

RECIPIENT CHARACTER: Wen Ning and Lana Baumgartner
REWARD SIZE: medium + medium
REWARD TYPE: boon for Ning and horror for Lana
TAG-IN LINKS:
ASH STARMERGREEN NEWMANIDEAS/PREFERENCES?: I have no ideas really, so I'll let you come up with what you think they might want/deserve. For Ning, something to reward him for being A Good, Helpful Boy would be nice. Opting out of any eye trauma for Lana's horror, or anything involving needles/spikes going into skin. Psychological horror or body horror are both A+.

If you'd like to reroll either of these, you totally can - I'm running with the first ideas to mind.
A MEDIUM BOON FOR WEN NING - Though Wen Qing has long since been tragically lost, her memory lives on... in Wen Ning's heart, and now in the pendant resting in his hand as he wakes. It's made from a burnished brass, and the old-fashioned styled etching on each face depicts a familiar design, formerly found on the bottles in which Wen Qing would store her spirit-revitalization concoctions.
But what does it do? He'll find out soon enough, I'm sure: So long as he has the pendant on him, anytime he does something kind, brave, thoughtful, or otherwise indicative of being a Good Helpful Boy, he'll feel the same warm sense of validation that he always did when he knew that Wen Qing was proud of him.
A MEDIUM HORROR FOR LANA - Oh, man. What bad luck. ...No, literally - Lana seems to have an escalating degree of absolutely awful luck over the span of anything from two weeks to a month (your choice). This bad luck is especially prominent when she's actually trying to help someone or accomplish something. I hope nobody here is afraid of failure. :')
Dying resets the bad luck. Trying to avoid the bad luck doesn't work - it will find her, even if it has to do something incredibly unlikely to do so. It seems that the degree of bad luck is proportional to the importance of the task she's attempting, so the best she can really seem to do to minimize the collateral damage is to live her life as mildly as possible for a bit and attract harmless but inconvenient bad luck instead of potentially crippling bad luck.
Feel free to extrapolate on this as you choose, play with the details of it, give the luck a personality of its own (maybe it likes irony, maybe it tends to drag others into the bad luck incidents, etc). When it wears off, it simply... does. No different feeling, just the distinct lack of anything going wrong all of a sudden.

RECIPIENT CHARACTER: Jiang Yanli
REWARD SIZE: Small
REWARD TYPE: Boon
TAG-IN LINKS:
IDEAS/PREFERENCES?: I'd like for Yanli to receive a duffle bag filled with dresses -- they can be wrinkled and wadded up if you'd so like, but it would be awesome if there were 8 to 10 in there. Nothing at all extravagant, just thin fabric, cheap dresses that are all in a long style. No other accouterments are included, i.e. undergarments, accessories.

RECIPIENT CHARACTER: L3-37
REWARD SIZE: large
REWARD TYPE: technically a boon but she'll see it as a horror
TAG-IN LINKS:
IDEAS/PREFERENCES?: I would like to give Elthree an optional human form, to last throughout her time in game, that she can change back and forth between droid and human. She won't be able to control when she becomes human, or how long it will last. Reasoning behind it being that it's a lot easier for the Technicians to make her suffer and die if she's a pitiful organic being. Also, it will piss her off.

REWARD SIZE: small
REWARD TYPE: boon
TAG-IN LINKS: FRAN + NIE HUAISANG +6
FRAN + RIVER +11
IDEAS/PREFERENCES?: Fran would love an axe of any size. Also a small knife, but the axe is more important.

What do you mean you used that axe and a few hours later it was just a small hand axe? A day later you went to use it again and it was large and some what unwieldy? That's strange. Oh axe, you so funny.
